Frequently Asked Questions
We know families often have questions about registration, class expectations, dancewear, recital details, studio policies, and additional services. Our FAQ is designed to make important information easy to find.
Classes & Registration
How do I register for classes?
Registration is completed through our Parent Portal. If you’re new to Studio 3-D, you’ll first create an account before selecting classes for your dancer.
Can my dancer try a class before registering?
We do not offer trial classes during our regular dance season. If you're interested in seeing if our studio and/or dance style is a good fit for your child, we recommend registering for one of our summer classes when available. These shorter sessions are a great way for new dancers to experience the studio and meet our instructors before committing to a full season.
How do I know which class is right for my dancer?
Class placement is based on age, experience, and sometimes, instructor recommendation. If you need guidance determining placement for your dancer, reach out to Debbie Griggas.
Can my dancer take more than one class?
Dancers who are at least 7 and older can absolutely register for more than one class. Studio 3-D offers multiple, different styles such as Acro and Stagebound.
Tuition & Payments
When is tuition due?
Monthly tuition is due on the 3rd of each month with a 7-day grace period (i.e., 10th). Payments can be made through the Parent Portal or via cash or check in the studio’s drop box.
Is the registration fee refundable?
No. The annual registration fee is non-refundable and is due at the time of registration.
What happens if I miss a payment?
Accounts with overdue balances on the 11th will incur a $15 late fee. An additional $10 late fee is added weekly until the account is in good standing. Any overdue balances past 30 days will result in the dancer’s inability to participate in class until the account has been paid.
Attendance
What if my dancer misses a class?
If your dancer is unable to attend, please indicate their absence in the Parent Portal. Refunds are not provided for classes dancers are unable to attend.
Are makeup classes available?
No. Because classes build on skills learned each week and instructors follow a planned curriculum, makeup classes are not available.
Will I be reimbursed if my class is cancelled?
Yes. Any unplanned class cancellations will have an applied credit to the account. Please allow 2-3 business days for the credit to appear.
Dress Code
What should my dancer wear to class?
Each class has a specific dress code, including the appropriate leotard, tights and shoes.
Girls
Ballet- pink tights, black leotard (NO tutus or skirts)
Jazz- solid color tights or leggings (to the ankle), black leotard (NO t-shirt or shorts)
Boys
Ballet and Jazz- black athletic pants, white t-shirt
All other classes
Hip Hop- comfortable, modest athletic wear (NO jeans), clean sneakers (studio only, no outside dirt)
The dress code policy can be found in the Parent Portal under “Info” and “Waivers”.
Why can’t I purchase dance shoes from Amazon?
While Amazon may seem like a convenient and inexpensive option, dance shoes sold there are lower quality for support and durability, tend to have inconsistent sizing and most importantly, end up ruining the studio floor.
Although Amazon shoes may appear less expensive initially, they often wear out much faster than professionally fitted dance shoes.
Amazon dance shoes are not permitted at Studio 3-D Dance.
Where can I purchase dance shoes, tights, and leotards?
There are several ways to purchase the required dancewear items. During the summer, the studio offers shoe-fitting days when families can bring their dancer(s) in to be professionally fitted for the dance shoes needed for the upcoming season. Tights and leotards are also available for purchase during these fitting events.
Families who are unable to attend a shoe-fitting day may purchase shoes through our approved retailer listed below.
Throughout the dance season, tights and leotards may also be purchased through the studio’s online store in the Parent Portal.
Approved dance shoe retailer: Rosy Cheeks Dancewear at 6045 Monona Dr. in Monona
Recital
Why do dancers of all ages participate in the recital?
The annual recital celebrates each dancer’s progress and gives every student the opportunity to perform for family and friends. It’s an exciting way to build confidence and showcase everything they’ve learned throughout the season.
Is recital participation required?
While we highly encourage all dancers to participate, families are able to choose recital participation in December of each season.
Where can I find recital dates and location information?
Important recital dates, rehearsal schedules, and venue information can be found:
-
In the Parent Portal under “Info”, “Documents & Files” then “20xx year calendar view”
-
On the studio website
-
In studio newsletters
When will I receive costume information?
Costume details, sizing information, and important deadlines are shared in January and February.
Costume details (such as accessories) can be found in the Parent Portal under “Students” and then “Class Notes”.
Can I take pictures or videos during the recital?
To respect all performers and avoid distractions, photography and video is strictly prohibited during the recital. However, this is highly encouraged during the rehearsals.
Will professional recital photos and videos be available?
Yes! Studio 3-D partners with professional photographers and videographers to capture recital memories. Information about each will be shared with families prior to the recital.
Studio Policies
Why is attendance important?
Dance is a team activity. Regular attendance helps dancers build confidence, improve skills, and stay prepared for performances.
Can parents stay and watch class?
This is absolutely allowed and encouraged.
What happens if class is canceled due to weather?
Weather-related updates will be shared through email, text and the studio’s Facebook page.
